PARKINSON’S LAW

Want to hit your first 5 figure month on Merch by amazon?

You’ll need these traits.

PART EIGHT

PARKINSON'S LAW

What is it?

work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion

And why is this important to your merch by amazon success?

If you understand the Parkinson’s law principles

You will double your workflow, at-least, probably even more,

You will become more efficient

You’ll get much more done quicker and have more spare time

To break this down simply,

Let me tell you what I’ve been up to recently,

I’ve been creating unique designs for merch by amazon

And uploading them,

Amazing right?

Anyway,

On Friday I wanted to do 30 really good designs and had 2 hours to complete it,

So I did it,

Yesterday I wanted to do 30 really good designs but i had 1.5 hours to complete it,

So I did it,

Same quality designs,

Same set up, same place of work, same everything,

The only difference is,

I gave myself 1.5 hours to complete it,

PARKINSON'S LAW states that you FILL THE TIME ALLOCATED WITH THE WORK

The same amount of work,

FILLED my 2 hours that I gave it,

And also FILLED my 1.5 hours,

Literally to the minute,

Why is this?

I was mindful of this shit while I was doing it so let me explain my theory on this,

I think our brain is super good at keeping track of time,

Once I said I had a 2 hour deadline

My brain started counting and calculating,

By about design 10

A third of the way through,

My brain then calculated,

That I’ve done a 1/3,

BUT i still got more than 2/3 of time left,

So lets SLOW down a bit so we MEET the deadline,

NOT finish before but MEET the deadline,

Because thats the instruction I gave my brain,

And thats what happened,

Same thing for the 1.5 hour deadline,

But this time,

After 10 designs,

A third of the way through,

I had less than 2/3 of time left,

So my brain calculated i has LESS time,

Therefore the feeling I got was to SPEED up,

And this feeling of ‘slowing down and speeding up’

Carried on throughout each deadline,

Until I was scrambling at the end to complete the deadline,

There are other factors to include,

Like losing focus, getting a bit bored etc,

But either way, it was the same result,

I MET the deadline set once I committed,

So, whats the simple hack for this?

Set yourself a tight deadline,

A bit less time than you feel is adequate to do the work,

Focus completely on that one task,

And watch how Parkinson’s law WORKS IN YOUR FAVOUR

And you complete a 2 hour task in 1.5 hours, or maybe even less

PART NINE coming soon

One Life and its not a rehearsal
