My theory on how merch by amazon algo works

Looking at my new sales in the last 90 days (merch by amazon),

MOST of them,

Are from designs I uploaded 6 months + ago,

Some even longer than a year.

I’ve uploaded a shit load of designs this year,

Some of them sell straight away,

But the majority of new sales are from a long time ago,

I’m wondering if amazon are putting some sort of queue system because of the amount of ai designs coming onto the platform?

As in,

If you uploaded 6 months ago,

It gets a bit more exposure than the new stuff you upload,

But then, if that was the case,

Why do I have stuff that sells straight away?

Maybe MBA works like this,

You upload a new design,

It gets a day or 2 to get some clicks, save to basket or sale,

If not, it gets pushed to the back of the queue,

But it’ll come back to the front again in 6 months?

Then that’ll explain why some shit sells straight away,

And some takes a while,

Looking at the average of when my new designs sell,

Its at 28 days (last i checked),

So maybe it’s a monthly thing?!

Each new design is giving a day or so,

Then moves to the back of the queue,

The ones that got clicks and saved to basket,

Maybe they move slower to the back of the queue,

Then a month later,

They’re given another chance,

And depending on how the market reacts to them,

They will move faster to the back of the queue or slower,

This is all theory, me chatting shit whilst I’m waiting to go train,

But it has crossed my mind; how the algo works,

Coz if you find a way that is in line with the algo, then that means $$$,

So how can all this theory shit talk benefit you,

JUST PRETEND the above is kinda correct,

It is a queue system,

So you have a day or maybe even a few hours to please the algo,

What would be the nest practices for this?

  1. Talk directly to a specific customer: then amazon will show it to a smaller audience, and you’ll get more chance of clicks, save to baskets and sales

  2. Use focused keywords. Less deviation from your audience and your niche the better. Nothing wasteful, spammy or to fill the boxes.

  3. Work on volume but change something. So lots of designs with the same phrase, but change the keywords slightly. Or lots of different phrases with the same keywords.

  4. Following from 3. Give yourself time to test a niche. Work on it up to 100 designs. And work out what sells and exactly why it sells.

  5. Lets not talk about ads, coz that’ll change the dynamic a whole lot more and probably shit all over my theory above.

Anyways, i’m off to train. 👊
